Safari Animal Memory Match

Made for the kind of play that earns shelf space

Five safari animals, twice each, on ten Baltic birch tiles. The elephant, monkey, lion, tiger, and giraffe are engraved in fine outline rather than printed, so the detail sits in the wood itself and will not wear away the way a painted face does after a year on the playroom floor.

Memory match asks a child to hold a picture in their head and remember where it sat, which is a harder skill than it looks and one that sharpens quickly with practice. A three year old will begin by turning tiles at random and be delighted when two happen to agree, while an older child will start tracking the whole board and winning against the adults. The game grows with the child, which is why a set like this stays in rotation for years.

The backs are engraved with a scatter of monstera leaves, so the set looks finished from every angle even when the tiles are spread face-down across the rug. Each tile is approximately 2.5 inches square with rounded corners, cut from premium Baltic birch and finished by hand with food-safe beeswax and jojoba oil.

Open-ended by design. Play classic concentration face-down, use the animals as story prompts for a small-world safari, hide them in a bin of rainbow rice (not included) for a matching dig, or sort them by size, habitat, and who has stripes. Wood is a natural material, and each tile varies slightly in grain and tone. We think that is part of the charm.
